East Fife Tri Club

Race Report August 2016

Dublin- on Sunday 14th August Jamie Macdonald and Elise Methven raced in the Dublin Ironman 70.3, an excellent event well recommended for those looking for a middle distance triathlon. Conditions on the day seemed near perfect with light breezes and cloud cover ensuring it remained a comfortable temperature.  There seemed to be no chance of rain, however this proved not to be the case while out on the bike course which unfortunately proved problematic for many of the riders, when they hit a slippery section, causing many accidents. Fortunately Elise and Jamie both managed to avoid incident and completely the course safely. Elise had a fantastic race, emerging from the water in first position in her category.  She maintained top 5 position after the bike course and eventually finished in 6th position in a time of 5:25:46. Jamie also had a great race, and despite feeling quite ill during the run, persevered and finished in a time of 5:50:29.

And on the same day Marcus Taylor raced in the British Standard Championships in Liverpool, naturally a very competitive field, where he finished 20th in his category with a time of 2.12.30.

Aberfeldy- on Sunday 21st August. Adrian Wood and Neil Millar completed the Aberfeldy middle distance triathlon which once again hosted the Scottish championships.  This is a stunning event in a beautiful setting and conditions on the day could not have been more perfect.  Cold water and a notoriously hilly bike route provide a challenging course, however both Adrian and Neil put in superb performances, with Adrian finishing in 6:44:25 and Neil in 6:00:14.
Perth - the Perth Relay Wild triathlon took place on the same day.  This race has a different format, whereby teams of 4 all complete a full, but short course triathlon, before handing over to the next team member.  East Fife Tri had two teams entered - the Z team comprising Marcus Taylor, Marianne Berghuis, Jennifer Brook and Neil Pirie, and the Bobcats comprising Clara Anderson, Jan Constable, Kerry Simpson and Shona Small. The Z team claimed 3rd position of the mixed teams, and of particular note is that all the ladies competing were taking part in only their second triathlon!

On the 27th August Falkland estate hosted the Scottish Trail Running Championships which was a challenging 7.4 mile route with long climbs.  Steve Macfarlane finished in 50.57, Adrian Wood in 53.41, Jennifer MacFarlane in 57.11 and Jane Askey in 1.22.54, claiming 2nd prize in category too.

The next day was the Barry Buddon Half marathon near Monifieth on a windy and exposed course. Marcus Taylor ran in 1.31.50, and Linda Hardie claimed the F65 prize in a time of 2.10.41.

Also on 28th August James Logan completed his first Ironman full distance race in Vichy, France and finished in an incredible 11 hours 7 minutes.

And the Scottish Championship Standard race was held at Lochore on the same day.  Neil Pirie raced and finished in 2.41.15.  Findlay Baillie raced in the Tristars 3 and finished 9th, and Anna Hedley and Ruby Methven raced in Tristars 2 winning 1st and 2nd prizes respectively!  Isla Hedley also raced  here and finished 6th, very well done to her too!
