East Fife Tri Club

Race Report September 2016

The first weekend in September was a busy one, with multiple events taking place on the 4th:

Down in North Yorkshire, the Rubicon middle distance triathlon was changed to a duathlon at the last minute, with the swim being replaced with 5km run.  Sally Newman-Carter raced and completed in 5:37 finishing 6th in category.

At the Inch by Inch swim run at Loch Lomond, Elise Methven and team mate Barbara Sweeney claimed 1st prize and broke the female course record.  This race comprises 8km of swimming and 25km of running over challenging and hilly terrain. Alasdair Hood and son Andrew also raced as a team finishing in 6 hours 19 minutes.

Marcus Taylor travelled to Austria to represent GB in the European Middle Distance Championships.  Persevering despite a virus, he finished in 5.20, and managed a PB on the swim.

Tricia Wallace ran the Glenmore 24, a 12 hour running race, completing an incredible 46 miles around laps in Glenmore Forest in the Highlands.

The following weekend, on 11th, Jess Bucket took 3rd place at the West Lothian triathlon, very well done!  Over the course of the week of 10th to 18th September, Chris Wallard took part in LEJOG, which is cycling from Lands End to John O’Groats - 1000 miles in total over 9 days, covering over 100 miles every day.  He has raised over £3000 for Alzheimer’s Research, and apparently still loves cycling.

On 17th September West Sands in St Andrews was the location of the inaugural ‘Splash & Dash’ Beach Race which was a 4.2 mile race along the sand and through the water.  Adrian Wood finished in 7th place in a time of 28.02.

On Saturday 24th September, the Len Read Memorial Ride took place around the East Neuk of Fife, and Adrian Wood, Alasdair Hood and Gwen Tivendale completed the 50 mile route.  And the following day the Ainster Haddies hosted their annual event the East Neuk 10k.  Neil Millar came 19th in 39.24, Adrian Wood 51st in 42.11, and Craig Trewartha 59th in 43.44

A great month of racing, well done to all of you!
